Oral Health Appointments

You will begin to hear us use the term “Oral Health Appointment” when we talk to you about your regular check up and cleaning. Because so many patients refer to it as “just a cleaning”, we want to tell you about the value of your regular visit.

When Dr. Smith and the hygienists examine your mouth and do your scaling and polishing they are also checking for abnormalities of the soft tissue, for defects in restorations and the structure of your teeth, and the general oral health which is representative of your total health.

Without good oral health it’s very hard to maintain overall good health. There is a link between periodontal disease and heart problems. In order to maintain good health into old age you need good teeth to be able to chew and digest your food properly.

Your life long oral health is our goal for you. Do yourself a favor and keep your regular Oral Health Appointments.

Hygiene

Our Oral Health department offers the patient the most important part of dental treatment in preventing disease before it starts. Our dental hygienists are fully trained and licensed and are registered with the state. They provide dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, brushing and flossing instruction and plaque control techniques. They are trained to take x-rays and other dental services. They are an extension of the doctor , which allows us the opportunity of spending more time with each patient.

We recommend Oral B Toothbrushes.  Our units have timers so you know that you have brushed for two minutes.  We have the basic models and the new Triumph model that can be programmed in five languages and will tell you when it is time for a new brush head.  The new floss action brush head does an exceptional job of cleaning your teeth.  You will see a definite reduction of plaque and improvement in your oral health with regular constant brushing, flossing, and check ups.
